Yes it doesn’t age well but it’s still pretty awesome and for those of us that got to see it on the big screen in 1982 it was amazing for it’s time

This movie is definitely a cult classic. I have shown it to my teenaged students whenever they've finished an examination early in the exam period and while they scoffed at the dated CGI, the plot hooked them and held them. Without fail, students will ask me to let them watch to the end of the movie each and every time, despite the bell ringing for them to go to their next exam before the movie is over. I'd say that's the mark of a movie that stands the test of time.

The movie was a phenomenon at the time of it’s release. The special effects were ground-breaking and the story lived from the fact that computers were magical mystery machines for most people at the time.
Unfortunately, the movie has, just for those reasons, aged poorly. The special effects are cheap for today’s standards and the storyline is naive, if not stupid from today’s perspective. It is a bit Matrix for the poor.
But, if you are interested in cinematic history, know that this was one of the movies that did set new standards in terms of special effects at it’s time and that it was an important milestone that led to the 90% CGI Marvel (and similar) movies of today. Watch it with the eyes of a viewer from the time, and you will enjoy this milestone in cinematic history.

To fully appreciate "Tron," you probably had to watch the movie at some point during its release. Until now, I only knew "Tron: Legacy," and, admittedly, I can only dimly remember the sequel. Meanwhile, with the original, I quickly realized that I would need some time to adjust to the rather dated CGI environments. But, because the look is at least unique, I was able to do so eventually.

And the movie actually has a lot to offer thematically. For example, it is almost prophetic when it comes to the depiction of a “real” and a “virtual” world. Of course, there are limits to the presentation of this technology, but the makers cannot be accused of a lack of creativity. However, the same cannot be said of the characters, as they are somewhat generic overall. But at least they fulfill their purpose.

In the end, whether you like the movie with modern eyes or not depends mainly on how quickly you get used to the look. Surprisingly, I didn't have too many problems with it.

Tbh this is barely watchable today but not just because the CGI is incredible old, the story is also pretty silly and boring and the acting also didn't feel that good. Anyway, Tron is obviously "one of cinema's earliest films to use extensive computer-generated imagery (CGI)" [0] and as such it was fun to watch for "historic" reasons.

"Tron" is not really a very good movie, but it is looks undeniably cool. Its got some corny and practically indecipherable computer jargon, impossibly naïve takes on future technologies, and the standard evil corporation complete with sympathetic, victimized good guy.

The story is pretty creative and I guess it could be interpreted as an influence on "The Matrix". However, the great thing about "Tron" is that it looked like nothing else had before and remains a totally unique looking film to this day.

I love the grainy look of the characters' faces when they are battling the Master Control Program. That whole "in-the-computer" look is really still amazing. This whole film is about the visuals. When you read about all of the work that went into making "Tron", it builds an even greater appreciation for the film and makes it much easier to stomach its sky-high corniness quotient.
