Yes it doesn’t age well but it’s still pretty awesome and for those of us that got to see it on the big screen in 1982 it was amazing for it’s time

This movie is definitely a cult classic. I have shown it to my teenaged students whenever they've finished an examination early in the exam period and while they scoffed at the dated CGI, the plot hooked them and held them. Without fail, students will ask me to let them watch to the end of the movie each and every time, despite the bell ringing for them to go to their next exam before the movie is over. I'd say that's the mark of a movie that stands the test of time.

That movie was kinda groundbreaking at the time but looking back at it, it’s clear parts of CGI hasn’t aged well I mean it’s early 80s so. As much people call Tron as a modern Isekai which is I guess indifferent toward that. Cool to see Wendy Carlos did the music for original but might not surpass a certain French musical duo in next few decades. For me it like the outside game portion is like boring and it isn’t until that Jai alai game that it gets cool.

Absolutely stunned by the visuals for this, it's one of the first movies to ever use CGI and it looks dated but at the same time it doesn't at all. It's genius to set this up in a video game universe, if you don't have the technology to make the CGI look like the real world yet, just put your characters in an arcade video game... It's exactly what I want an arcade video game to look like! So colorful and I like that the faces are black and white it makes such a contrast. The costumes add even more weirdness. There's a few bits here and there visually that are a clear inspiration from *Star Wars* like the control room where the villain operates for most of the movie and the big bad always appears like a hologram (his modified voice kinda sounds like Vader too).

Really sucked in by the visuals but I wish the story and characters had more depth, in the first 10 minutes we briefly discuss the existential crisis with the programs but they never return to that sadly, that could've been expanded. No idea who the main character was and the
last minute romance subplot
was nonsense. I got a little confused by what was happening in the last 30 minutes honestly and it doesn't help that we go back and forth between two (or three??) dudes wearing the same costumes, wasn't sure who I was looking at most of the time. All the games were satisfying, the one with the bikes especially. Love the score and the sounds for all the gadgets, the flying arch looking thing made such a satisfying sound when it was hovering.

The movie was a phenomenon at the time of it’s release. The special effects were ground-breaking and the story lived from the fact that computers were magical mystery machines for most people at the time.
Unfortunately, the movie has, just for those reasons, aged poorly. The special effects are cheap for today’s standards and the storyline is naive, if not stupid from today’s perspective. It is a bit Matrix for the poor.
But, if you are interested in cinematic history, know that this was one of the movies that did set new standards in terms of special effects at it’s time and that it was an important milestone that led to the 90% CGI Marvel (and similar) movies of today. Watch it with the eyes of a viewer from the time, and you will enjoy this milestone in cinematic history.

To fully appreciate "Tron," you probably had to watch the movie at some point during its release. Until now, I only knew "Tron: Legacy," and, admittedly, I can only dimly remember the sequel. Meanwhile, with the original, I quickly realized that I would need some time to adjust to the rather dated CGI environments. But, because the look is at least unique, I was able to do so eventually.

And the movie actually has a lot to offer thematically. For example, it is almost prophetic when it comes to the depiction of a “real” and a “virtual” world. Of course, there are limits to the presentation of this technology, but the makers cannot be accused of a lack of creativity. However, the same cannot be said of the characters, as they are somewhat generic overall. But at least they fulfill their purpose.

In the end, whether you like the movie with modern eyes or not depends mainly on how quickly you get used to the look. Surprisingly, I didn't have too many problems with it.
