This full moon looks more like a full cheese wheel from where i'm standing. Another one for the 'Frank Grillo cheesy action flick cinematic universe' and actually one of the better ones in that category. There's enough fun and thrills here to make for an entertaining watch and the cheesy (i'd say sometimes unintentional) one-liners made me giggle. The initial CGI transformation looked alright and the costumes and animatronics(?) after that for the werewolves look pretty badass. Not sure if the overuse of lens flare is intentional or not but it might just be a world record. Decent action sequences but I wish it was more interesting and made more sense with the story and characters. Some parts made me think of *The Purge* for some reason. Absolutely ridiculous last few minutes but I was more than entertained.

The dialogue, however, is where Werewolves stumbles, occasionally crossing into laughable territory. Lines that are supposed to sound dramatic or heroic often come off as unintentionally hilarious. Similarly, a lot of characters make decisions so bafflingly stupid that you’ll find yourself laughing in disbelief. Whether this adds to the charm or detracts from the experience depends on your tolerance for cheesy genre tropes.

Visually, the film boasts a distinctive 'flair', leaning heavily into its love of lens flares—more than anything seen since Star Trek (2009). Practically every scene is drenched in shimmering streaks of light, giving the film a unique visual identity. While it doesn’t make the action more intense, it does give Werewolves a style all its own, for better or worse.

It’s messy, over-the-top, and sometimes unintentionally funny, but Werewolves knows exactly what it is: a bloody, fast-paced film with intelligent monsters, a wild premise, and enough lens flare to make J.J. Abrams jealous. It’s not perfect, but it’s a howling good time if you know what you’re getting into.

Actors still need to make a living, right? They must have earned what? 10,000 each? I made a batch of popcorn, pretended it was the early 90s and I did not hesitate to flick my tablet's screen skipping the painfully horrible acting. I just couldn't help but wonder... what were they thinking making this movie. 😄

Imagine having 1 year to plan and still being so unprepared. The scientists weren't even prepared. One lady was just having a movie night with her bowl of popcorn, hadn't barricaded her doors or anything 😆

I could complain about one million things here, but eventually I had to just shut my brain off. It ended up being one of those bad, but fun horrors.

Grillo still had his trousers on in the end.
