Thinking he can overshadow an unknown actress in the part, an egocentric actor unknowingly gets a witch cast in an upcoming television remake of the classic show "Bewitched".

Having not seen anything else Bewitched besides this movie, I think it's a pretty good movie. I enjoyed the simple and well executed plot, I thought the acting from everyone was well done, and I really REALLY appreciate that they don't try to explain the magic system. I think all too often writers are so eager to share to the audience why a thing works and how the entropy of it all is just a cog in the machine of the universe and etc... anyway, it's nice, fun, casual viewing that I enjoyed.
I didn't really find any faults with it in my viewing, which is a bit rare for me, and I think a bit rare for the RomCom genre in general. I feel like there's always a little something to roll my eyes at for one reason or another, but everything here just seemed to work in the confines of the story elements and characters and I just didn't find myself rolling my eyes as much.
Michael Caine randomly appearing is definitely one of my favorite things about the movie. Overall, a really solid, casual RomCom I wouldn't mind seeing again. Could have laughed a bit more could have had the heart strings pulled a bit more, could have done with a bit less Will Ferrell cringe moments, but overall it is a solid watch.
I don't understand the hate. This is a wonderful movie and sweet romp. It turns the classic show upside down. Instead of following Samantha ( a powerful woman who dims her light to make her insecure husband feel better and fall in line with the subservient house wife role that was idolized of the time ) we follow Isabel (Nicole Kidman), a sweet naive witch who falls for a Jerk, Jack (Will Ferrell) who wants Darren to be the star of their reboot of Bewitched but Isabel decides she isn't having it. What follows is a fun romp of Jack and Isabel slowly falling for each other only for Isabel to realize something pretty important and change the course of the movie... sorta..? Idk how to explain it without spoilers lol but this is a really a great casting choice from top to bottom. I don't even like Will Ferrell and he does the part well. My best friend also dislikes Will Ferrell but gives him a pass for this movie. It's charming on its own and self aware which is fun.
At least they all knew nobody likes Darren, even in the original, and played that up here.
Absolutely worth a watch! but don't expect a remake or retelling of the original this isn't that.
Nora Ephron bastardizes the classic ‘60s sitcom _Bewitched_ in this modern adaptation. The story follows a witch named Isabell who’s trying to live a normal life without magic, but soon finds herself tempted when she’s cast in a Hollywood studio’s revival of the classic television show _Bewitched_. Starring Nicole Kidman, Will Ferrell, Shirley MacLaine, and Michael Caine, the cast is pretty good. However, Ephron seems more interested in making a satire about Hollywood than a rom-com; causing a lot of unevenness in the tone and wild shifts in the plot. Still, a lot of the jokes work and the characters are charming and fun. Yet while it’s entertaining, _Bewitched_ is a mess that doesn’t have a clear vision of what it wants to be.
I cringed through out this, especially at the silly voice Nicol Kidman put on throughout the film 😬
big potential, bad execution, Kidman is very adorable in this movie
Such good actors (except Ferrell) and such a bad movie...
