Friday the 13th Part 2

Five years after the horrible bloodbath at Camp Crystal Lake, new counselors roam the area, not sensing the ominous lurking presence that proves that the grisly legend is real.

This may not be the origin of the franchise but it was certainly the movie with which the die was cast. So much of what I love of the series can be found here: The ominous Jason as antagonist, a multitude of murder sequences and a favourite of mine, what I call Friday the 13th window break.
One thing I wish to mention, as a wheelchair user myself I find that the inclusion of the character of Mark and how he was portrayed in the the movie by Tom McBride, as well as the way in which friendships and relationships are shown shows what a consider a light and deft touch, a surprise due to the heavy handed nature of Slasher movies.
That and many other reasons is why this movie has a little spot in my heart and is, to me, pretty faultless, except for the fact if I had my choice I'd have Mark and Vickie be the ones to be victorious, but hey we can't have everything.
"I told the others, they didn't believe me. You're all doomed. You're all doomed."
Ted gets it. Just stay in a bar until everything blows over. Have yourself a good time, drink a few nice tasting beers and just enjoy your evening. You will not have to deal with Jason.
Anyway Friday the 13th Part 2 has Jason making his debut as a killer. He's not the Jason we know today which is what I love about this one. He has watched the the Town that Dreaded Sunshine and thought it would be a good look to use a sack to cover his face. He kept his love for final jump scares. His kills might have been more brutal but we never know because most was lost in the editing room. He has his best battle with a final girl in Ginny (Amy Steel). Getting kicked in the balls and being attacked with a chainsaw? Goo Ginny!!! Anyway I do get why Jason got more dangerous in the sequels. Jason didn't make Ginny wet her pants but a few little rats did.
Friday the 13th Part 2 has more teenagers being horny, having character, doing teenage stuff and all having a blast before their lives were cut short.
Part 2 is still such a fun rewatch and I love how Ginny battles Jason and thinking things through (acting like she's Jason's mummy). And we are all happy that Muffin survived! Am I right?
Ps. Crazy Ralph won't be there to warn any more teenagers.
Weirdly, I come to these films after playing the troubled game of the same name and, having finally got round to seeing this film, it gave me a real appreciation for what an excellent job the developers did at realising Packanack Lodge and Crystal Lake in general. Similarly, having been a fan of the game probably helped me enjoy this film more, too. Certainly the end chase / fight between Jason and
Ginny
was quite thrilling but I enjoyed the entire film.
A classic, but if you are expecting the iconic looking Jason, then this is not it. But it does give further back story of Jason and digs a little deeper into his past. Overall it is a great slasher movie typical of the 80s.
Well, still a classic but they missed to opportunity to raise the bar.
>*"A few words about safety. Axes, knives, lanterns, saws... they can all be trouble. Their misuse is the main cause of camp accidents."*
Thanks for the recap of last week's episode at the beginning there. Right after that we get a killer intro though, did not expect that twist and the head looked amazing. This one is more what I expected from this franchise (minus the hockey mask) a camp slasher done right! The setting and atmosphere are perfect. The kills still need some work but they were alright. I thought this was an alright movie until we get to that epic third act which elevates it to 'pretty damn good'. It's the simple cat and mouse formula but done so right, it was thrilling, fun, nice camerawork for the chase sequences, wild score and nice touch with the lore. Love the idea the final girl had with Jason's mother that was resourceful while also elevating Jason as a character. Cool ending.
It isn't Friday the 13th without “Friday the 13th” for me. This motto also applied this time, and ultimately, I opted for the second installment. I would say that it is the movie that established the foundations of the series the most, especially as Jason makes his first real appearance. The choice of victims, who are of course all exceptionally horny, is largely spot on; the kills are decent, and with Ginny (Amy Steel), “Part II” boasts one of the best final girls in the franchise. In the end, none of the films in the movie series are great art, but they are all among my favorite slashers. And the second one is one of the best "Fridays.”
We get to see Jason in all his glory but no hockey mask (yet). Same basic premise just with a different villain. Not quite as good as the first.
Muffin the dog is a traitor. Getting our guards down at the end.
All of these "Friday the 13th" movies...I don't know if I'd seen any of them, from start to finish, other than "Jason Goes To Hell". And the only reason I remember that is because I rented it on the recommendation of a friend. Stupid friend...
So it was with much trepidation that I chose to watch "Ft13thPt2" ( I hate when people need an acronym for everything, but it was kind of fun to do just now). As the movie chugged along, I was actually enjoying what I thought was going to be just another dumb slasher movie. And I was right. It IS just another dumb slasher movie. But doggone it...I was having a blast with it.
As it got closer to wrapping up, I started to remember the main character pretending to be Jason's Mother. Then, the memories were unlocked from the deepest cracks and crevices of my brain. I HAD actually seen this before (probably in the theater) and that I liked it back then, too.
To be honest, I thought I would dislike more this movie. It's entertaining and has a good pace, I enjoyed the suspense built. This was my girlfriend first slasher movie and she really liked it even though she's not really into horror movies, so I guess that's a major plus for the film. The ending doesn't make much sense, but I think every Friday the 13th has a final jump scare that's supposed to be a hallucination of the main character. Although I liked Jason characterization during the film, when I stopped to think about it, it is pretty lame and super generic.
