Comfortably the best 'Descendants' movie.
'Descendants 2' is the only one of the prior three that I didn't dislike, I didn't even like that 2017 release but it is at least better than the original flick (especially!) and 'Descendants 3'. This one is a spin-off and actually loses cast members from the trilogy, which should be a negative as they were the 'best' elements of that series.
However, this cast are good. Kylie Cantrall is a positive addition as Red, as is Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts. Other newcomers who are pluses are Brandy and Malia Baker, Jeremy Swift is decent too. It isn't just the onscreen talent that come out positively, the story and music (no cringe induced, miraculously) are too - they are much improved.
I am surprised there weren't any major twists (unless they come in a sequel, of course), but that's not a negative. I'm also a fan of how colourful the movie looks, visually it's probably an improvement too. All in all, I'm surprised at how fairly enjoyable this was to sit through - something I hadn't yet experienced with this franchise.
Based on the Letterboxd average rating that I see post-watch, it is much lower rated than the other three films. Typical! Probably explains why I liked it, perhaps what I previously found cringe is what makes 'Descendants', 'Descendants'? Each to their own and all that.

I love this movie franchise. Great music, costumes and theatrical acting. Thai one was very similar to previous movies, and maybe a slightly weaker plot, but overall a win for me! The daughters of Cinderella and the Queen of Hearts go back in time to meet their moms when they were teens. They work together to prevent a terrible prank which made the Queen of Hearts evil. They are able to rewrite history and save the fate of the future .

The movie is spent singing songs for a total of 30 minutes. I wanted to watch it just because it was fantastic. Perfect for kids or family. Otherwise, it's bad for people like me who just want fantasy. I didn't like it. The effects and acting are bad. In short, it's a movie to watch with family. Nothing else. Thanks for your efforts anyway.

I really love the Descendants movies. I knew this one would have a different flavor since Cameron Boyce tragically died and the group wasn’t coming back.
I appreciated them acknowledging Carlos/Cameron is no longer around, and that was beautiful.
Some of the cast are ridiculously talented. Not to mention Brandy as Cinderella and Paolo Montalban as Charming! But this fell flat, even with my low expectations.
Pretty straightforward, pretty predictable. But I did enjoy it. I’m holding out hope that this is just setting the stage for the real story in the next movie.
One other thing - can someone explain the loss of an accent? What even was that lol

Descendants: The Rise of Red (2024) - ❤x4
These seem to just keep getting worse. Music is worse, and the storyline is the same tired theme as the others. I think enough is enough.
How I rate:
1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too
9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!

That was unwatchable in every conceivable way. I made it for 12 minutes before moving on.

This was, so bad. The other movies were campy but fun, this one doesn't even stand up, and there was no climax, the climax was so anticlimactic that I only realized they'd "overcome it" because they were back where they started. This was so bad on so many levels.
