Thankfully we have Mads Mikkelsen who aces every project he's in, and non-hollywood studios to save us from endless American sh*t spewing films.

I walked into this just based on the actors, didn't know anything before, and found a Beautifully done film with a rich story about a long struggle with lots of hardships, high stakes and emotions.

Bravo.

Highly recommended.

A very hard film, but emotional and engaging. Mads Mikkelsen's performance makes the character of Ludvig Kahlen very powerful expressively. Really not to be missed.

I do love me a Mads Mikkelsen movie. 'The Promised Land' is a cracker!

The two hour run time whizzes by, you can kinda guess where the (great) story is heading but at no point was that a hindrance to my enjoyment. The cinematography is splendid, as are the locations, costumes and basically every other element really. Simon Bennebjerg shows plenty of acting knack as (De) Schinkel. Others to impress are Melina Hagberg and Amanda Collin, though the whole cast produce fine displays.

Mikkelsen himself puts in a performance of quality, very much the glue that holds everything together - as one would anticipate. He suits this sorta role to the absolute tee. This is up the top of my ranking of his filmography thus far, I'd in fact only rank it lower than 'A Royal Affair', 'Riders of Justice' and 'The Green Butchers'.

A gritty, rich in atmosphere and shot to nearly perfection with some of the most beautiful soundtracks this movie is filmed to such precision, it's so beautiful, everything connects, the cast blends with the atmosphere and Mads Mikkelsen is one of the best living actors right now and I'll die on that hill. It's got everything that I like, a history drama shot in the modern day with amazing set location, beautifully lit cinematography and a solid storyline to compliment the plot. There was never a moment I was bored considering the movie is about a retired captain trying to grow potatoes on his land (on the surface). So simple and yet so elegant. I'll always love the atmosphere surrounding this type of movies. It's so immersive despite the bleak tone the script is sturdy and the acting performances are top notch. The only negativity for me is although the pacing is good, it could've gone for a few more minutes, the intentions of the antagonists felt quiet weird to me and there are a few character I would've wanted to get to know better before the end, but all in all I recommend this movie.

I came across it because of Mads Mikkelsen, and I was captivated by this period drama – intimate and expertly crafted. The performances, cinematography, and pacing are the standout elements. It's a straightforward film, yet one with a good-hearted nature and substance.

Here Mads plays a retired soldier who, despite obtaining royal permission to cultivate potatoes in Jutland, encounters a series of formidable challenges. While this might sound like the dullest premise ever, the film unfolds into a gritty and meticulously crafted period piece led by an exceptional cast. The villain might feel a little over the top for the context, yet he manages to steal the show in every scene. I liked that the events tend to evolve on the bitter side diverging significantly from the corny narratives often seen in Hollywood.

The film, admittedly dialogue-heavy and occasionally slow-paced, compensates with a few moments of impactful action that consistently leave a lasting impression.

A good drama about the hard life of ordinary people, the hero is still chasing an almost impossible dream, regardless of losses, but this helps him understand what is important and how to do it right. And give up his dream. Such a western on the dull heather moors, where as in " Unforgiven", the main fight is inside

An epic story about resilience and honor that has among its positive aspects that air of a classic western that is supported by a solid protagonist. But the story ends up betting so much on commercial resources (female empowerment, cartoonish antagonist...) that the interesting approach to the invisible citizens and the introduction of the settlers in Jutland, remains an exercise in empty classic style lost among the beautiful landscapes of the Danish moors.
