One of the funniest movies I have watched with a good message to see what's on the inside of people rather than the outside.

it's a clear and loud massage here. beauty is just what the heart wants and it's not a body, it's another heart that matches yours.
now ,in this time, we seem to have the same beauty standard ,but isn't that... kinda bad? it's like you are forced to eat chocolate just because your buddies like chocolate even if it's bad for your specific heath.

anyway... when it was the Candace scene , when her face is revealed I got . . heartbroken so bad

he said those beautiful things to her just based on what he was seeing with the "hypnosis turned on " and he played with her like with a "normal kid".
now what was on my mind was seeing him seeing her for the first time being the real thing... damn!
I was like " now?.. what ? she's not pretty anymore... she's a little girl... she deserves all the love"

There is no way this movie gets made today, but I am glad it did get made. because there is an actual good message here. Jack Black is actually a very likeable character and the ending makes the rest of it better. Also, I never realized this was a Farrelly brothers film, but that defintely makes sense.

A rare romantic comedy about being shallow and inner-beauty. With some touching moments.

Funny and with an (for comedies) exceptionally good plot: Hal only sees the exterior of women until he meets self-help guru Tony. After this meetings Hal can only see the inner beauty of people and he falls in love with the 300 pound heavy Rosemary.

Rewatched this movie again. It's definitely funny and maybe even a little out of touch, especially in the year 2025, but the message is solid and it provides some good laughs while chasing the end game.

Jack Black gives a decent performance as a guy who only looks skin deep at women, but then gets "trained" to see the inner beauty, which leads to an unlikely love story.

You can guess all the beats here and know how and when the laughs are coming, but it doesnt change the effectiveness. It's hard to take the moral high ground and say this movie is all about the message as it does chase some cheap laughs, but its one of those on TBS so I'll watch for 10 minute movies.

At times, much like its protagonist, Shallow Hal can be a bit… shallow, but there’s no denying that this is a well meaning film from the Farrelly’s despite the laughs it tries to garner from its audience through body shaming jokes. The Paltrow-Black central romance is just too cute (for me) to pass up.

I mean, it's not perfect or oscar-worthy but it's definitely entertaining and cute to watch.
