Unoriginal and by the book, it's basically a *Friday the 13th* copy with a *Scream* reveal but fun characters and a good amount of laughs managed to save it, mostly. Fred Hechinger carried this movie with his awkward character and I liked his character arc but Bobby (Billy Bryk) turned out to be my favorite he just had a good vibe and was really funny. For a while I forgot this was a slasher and enjoyed the character dynamics. The horror is definitely the most generic part of this movie, lame mask for the killer, they don't really make him scary, and the kills are mostly offscreen. There's one cool axe kill that took me by surprise because it had decent prosthetics involved, I wish every kill had the same amount of love put into it. I predicted everything with the reveal and I'm usually really bad at that. Really cool fight towards the end.

"Can you see anything? I wish we had night vision goggles." Basically summarizes the movie.

If you like movies about dumb teenagers getting murdered at a summer camp, then there are plenty of other movies you can watch instead of this one.

I think that they were trying for something with this, and they almost hit it, as there were moments where it was almost sorta kinda genuinely funny. There were times when it was sorta making fun of horror movie tropes in a good satirical way. For a horror movie there was a minimal amount of blood and violence compared to a lot of other horror movies of the same type (but there was still blood and violence). And the reveal as to who was the killer, and why, wasn't completely original or unique, but its not something thats been over done (yet) imo.

However, there were other times when it kinda sucked. Like the moment when someone was getting beat up on the floor of a cabin, and he noticed the attacker had an erection and they sorta joked about it crudely. Or the cringy bits where the "cool" counsellors were making fun of the seasoned socially awkward counsellor.

All told, it was fairly average. I don't think there was much that stood out, or that sets it apart from other slasher movies. But it wasn't completely terrible so might be worth a watch on a rainy night when you just want to watch something brainless.

Cringe character summer camp. Some enjoyable moments, but definitely a background movie that is pretty boring on the whole. Too graphic for kids, too tame for adults. I suppose it'll fit for a 15-16 yr demo.
It'll have its fans, but just wasn't for me. 4.4

CONS:

-Jason character insufferable. Was he supposed to play someone with special needs? Not even trying to be rude his acting was just fucking awful. Jason is the main reason I turned the movie off and didn't finish it.

-Too many transition shots but I think that's a personal preference

-So many songs (like every 3 minutes a new song)

-Off screen kills

PROS:

-When I turned off the movie because Jason is a stupid character

I have watched enough bad slasher movies to know when I am in for a shitfest.

I like the tone they hit and the watch is a breeze with some decent comedy. They reveal doesn’t add much and it is missing that one great kill to put it over the top.
