Well done show, with at least some attempts at historical reality.

Much of the initial energy of the show was at the hands of Liv Hill, and once the character grew up she became more fiend and caricature rather than character. Still, I did enjoy its playing with the history to entertain with humour and modern attitudes thrown in to serve as a means to grasp the interiority or moment.

The throwbacks to her younger past gave the show some shape, that once abandoned left us with the Wicked Witch of the West, even if Samantha Morton is brilliant whilst doing it.

decent enough period piece. The time jump to new Catherine was a bit disconcerting but didn't break the flow. I did feel a lot of the characters were pretty thin. Had a few questions on how she could get some things done but not others like boot the cousin... will watch S2

[Viaplay] It has the virtue of not falling into presenteeism and not fearing the ambiguity of the main characters, a common mistake in Starz historical series on female characters. A game of intrigues, alliances and manipulations is established that maintains the idea of women facing a world of rude and violent men, but without avoiding the Machiavellian tricks of Catherine de Medici, which ends up being a pleasantly sadistic show.

The biggest problem with this show is that it simply falls flat. There is barely any tension build-up. All the little side stories just kind of suddenly get dropped and never end up having any relevance. You don't form any real investment in any of the characters. There are no big "oh wow" moments.

While it is not terrible, at the end of the day it is simply a kind of boring and forgettable show.

A failed attempt to mix Medici with Borgia series. Despite of rich decorations and costumes the series does not look or feel anything close to the portrayed age because of cartoonish characters behaving and speaking like in modern days - you just don't care what will happen why any of them. Another problem is that the series alter the real historic events for the sake of making the plot "more dramatic" (a fake drama).

What a treat, this series. A few timeline adjustments to focus on the more significant story points for Catherine but intriguing nonetheless. If you hadn't heard of Catherine de Medici before, you will now. This show is a vibe with an excellent cast. Liv Hill as young Catherine is truly a treat and she owned that role. There needed to be more of her. Sennia Nanua standing tall and holding her own. As usual, Samantha Morton was her great self as well.
