this series doesn't have time to waste and it felt so good watching it. it finished the story of adventure time, the story of ice king which I always wanted to know and it wrapped it pretty well. it's what I was looking for.
it had me in tears a couple of times! 😊

Ok, just finished season 1. So glad there will be more! Hope they dont cancel it or something stupid. This was so great! The color palette and art choices were beautiful. Overall really enjoyed the story and more grown up version of the show I grew up with, the fact its a continuation of sorts makes it even better. There were a few disappointing things, having to do with voices, and honestly while I understand Prismo being a main character in this story, it wasn't an option... i guess. they could have left Lemongrab out.

I enjoyed the Winter King episode, and Princess Bubblegum's song in that - it made me laugh out loud. The entire scene where they are kidnapped and she's going to "bake them with love". It was one of my favorites in the whole show.

The characters in their different universes and their alters were also a lot of fun to see, and there was a lot of creativity in that.

I am also a fan of the opening song in episode 1.

Haven't finished, but... Why is Prismo not Kumail? 😭 he was my favorite and it's so bizarre and disappointing - and I love Kumail

Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake is a beautiful and unexpected continuation of the Adventure Time universe—one that trades in the original show’s lighthearted, surreal randomness for a more focused and emotionally mature narrative. While it still has moments of classic weirdness and humor, this series is much more introspective, grounding its multiverse-hopping story in the emotional journey of Simon Petrikov. And in doing so, it feels like a long-overdue epilogue for one of Adventure Time’s most tragic characters.

What stands out the most is how seriously the show takes Simon’s pain. This isn’t just a cameo or a quick check-in—it’s a full exploration of his post-Ice King identity, and the emotional fallout of having been a villain, a victim, and now just… a man trying to figure out who he is without the crown. Watching him navigate that grief, confusion, and guilt while reluctantly guiding Fionna and Cake through a chaotic multiverse gives the show a rich emotional backbone that the original only hinted at in its later seasons.

Fionna and Cake themselves are fun, chaotic, and energetic, bringing levity and forward momentum to the story. Their alternate universe antics are classic Adventure Time material, but their journey—especially Fionna’s struggle with purpose and identity—mirrors Simon’s in a meaningful way. It’s not just fanservice; it’s character growth.

The animation is sharp, the pacing tight, and the writing strikes a great balance between emotional resonance and absurd comedy. There’s a lot of heart here—more than you might expect from a show that started as a gender-swapped joke episode. And for longtime fans, the multiverse format allows for some incredible cameos, references, and “what if” scenarios that deepen the world without relying solely on nostalgia.

Simon’s story finally gets a sense of closure—maybe not a perfect happy ending, but something honest and hopeful. And that makes this continuation more than worthwhile. 9/10.

A "reboot" with the same caliber of magic, weirdness, and storytelling as the original.

I really great show that expands upon the greater Adventure Time multiverse. I do think the ending could have been a little more spectacular, but it was still a good ending with all the conflicts being resolved. Hopefully, the creators will keep writing Adventure Time stories.

I was honestly hesitant about this concept on many levels, but this was a more than worthy follow up while also being much more than just a nostalgia run or a multiverse cash in. There’s the Arthurian scope of the mythology and breaking down of the characters into thematic cores. There’s the animation, fluid and gorgeous. There’s the cast, all giving their A game.

And there’s those very themes. It’s not about only living in the real world or fantasy. It’s not about, as an artist, completely separating yourself from the past work that defined you. It’s about carrying the fantastical with you while appreciating what you have, letting them coexist and merge. The fantastic springs from the ‘normal’ lives we lead, and in a sense that makes it just as intrinsic as anything else about life. And it’s okay to keep the things you poured your heart and soul into with you, and to let them change with you, evolve as you do. Move forward but not cast away. Nothing is one or the other. What Fionna and Cake ultimately concludes is that we are all a multiverse within ourselves, and the beauty, vibrancy, and heart of life is when we let those universes within us collide, however- or especially- contradictory they may seem. Fionna and Cake gives Adventure Time the literary scope to be revisited and remixed forever, at any point in time, everything has happened, will happen, is happening. And I’m happy to pick it up, again and again.
