Faraway Downs

The cinematography was very obviously done in studio with green backing in a lot of the scenes, which is you like the old westerns will be nostalgic. I prefer on location and they did quite a bit that way too, just all or almost all is my preference.

It's really pretty good. I'm not a Kidman fan, but do like Jackman. So I went in halfway thinking it would be only okay at best. But I was pleasantly surprised at how good the script was. The cast was phenomenal.

So, I've no idea what this has been voted down so much. Granted, it's not original material, _Faraway Downs_ is a mini-serie version of Baz Lurhman Movie _Australia_ But far away from being too long it does the movie justice. The cinematography is superb, the acting top notch, the plot very well written. I binged that in one session and wasn't bored for a minute. My only regret is that the character of Neil Fletcher as the villain of the story was a tad underdeveloped, even though his motivations are clear it would have been nice to see what brought him to it, but it's nitpicking on my part :) . So if you've got about 4 hours to spend i highly recommend you watch this :)

Great pictures, solid characters, compelling story, sometimes a little cheesy, learned a lot about australian history - all in all a great watch. Very recommended.

While this wasn't an amazing series, I think it was far better than reviews would lead you to believe. Overall enjoyable with excellent acting, and some majestic cinematography. It was worth the watch.

is this remake ??

So this is a retelling/remake of the 2008 movie Australia? Just re-edited and changed around a bit from what I can tell. I guess that's why TVDB deleted their listing for it. Took me some doing to figure out what was going on here.

The melodrama is far better suited to the traditional mini series format. The pristine cinematography would have been wasted on most screens on its original release so releasing it as an Ultra HD mini series in 2023 when most people have wide screen 4K TVs is a great idea.
