Set in Texas, this animated series follows the life of propane salesman Hank Hill, who lives with his overly confident substitute Spanish teacher wife Peggy, wannabe comedian son Bobby, and naive niece Luanne. Hank has conservative views about God, family, and country, but his values and ethics are often challenged by the situations he, his family, and his beer-drinking neighbors/buddies find themselves in.

Through thirteen seasons this show never gets repetitive or boring, it's always funny and the character progression is enjoyable, a GOAT in the cartoon world.

Took me a few attempts to get into over the years but once I did it turned out to be the best cartoon series I've ever watched. Relatable, everyday life themes and easy to binge - can't ask for more.

A surprisingly earnest and often thoughtful family comedy that poked gentle fun at both conservative and liberal stereotypes. While it was never as ambitious as other great sitcoms, it did manage to stay consistently funny throughout its entire run, with the last two seasons in particular having some of my favorite moments.

King of the Hill is one of the most quietly brilliant adult animated series ever made. While shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy, and South Park often went loud, absurd, and over-the-top, King of the Hill did something entirely different—it stayed grounded. Set in the fictional town of Arlen, Texas, the series is a gentle, dryly funny, and surprisingly heartfelt exploration of American suburban life. It never needed flashy animation or shock humor to make its point. Its strength was always in its writing and characters.

At the center of the show is Hank Hill, a propane salesman and embodiment of traditional values. He’s the straight man in a world that’s constantly evolving in ways he doesn’t always understand. But despite his rigidity, Hank is a decent, earnest man who genuinely wants to do right by his family and friends—even if it often leads to hilarious misunderstandings or moral panic. Mike Judge voices Hank with a perfect mix of exasperation and quiet pride, making him one of animation’s most memorable and strangely relatable protagonists.

The rest of the Hill family and their extended community are equally compelling. Peggy’s inflated sense of self, Bobby’s offbeat but lovable energy, and the bizarre brilliance of characters like Dale Gribble, Boomhauer, and Bill Dauterive create a cast that feels fully realized, not just as jokes, but as people. Episodes often center around small-scale conflicts—local politics, parenting, work, relationships—that reflect real-life struggles, delivered with dry wit and surprising insight.

It’s a show that respected its audience’s intelligence. It didn’t need to yell to be funny. And it knew when to be sincere without slipping into melodrama.

King of the Hill is an adult animation classic not because it was the loudest—but because it was honest, subtle, and weirdly timeless. 8/10.

Average (completely unhinged) midwestern family. This show is wonderful.

Animation above the usual standard, with smart jokes and detailed characters you can't help but fall in love with.
