I’ve grown accustomed to how KDramas do Romantic Dramedies, first they front load it with silly, physical comedy, while characters are being established, and then, stealthily, they add the darker shades of drama or whatever genres the premise calls up. This one is no exception. There are moments of cutesy that make you smile, there are curses, threats, murders and, of course, romance. All these are cooked together to lay a table crowded with Korean delicacies. The characters are adorable or sinister, depending on the episode. The acting is great. Rowoon and Jo Bo-ah have great chemistry. The locations are beautiful in all four seasons. The comedic characters are fun. I give this series an 8 (cornucopia) out of 10.
It was really great. It probably has my favorite love triangle. The only problem for me is how mean was Jang Shin-yu, and that hurt a lot of the romance part in my experience. He was getting it on her like it was obsessive. Plus he was egocentric, normally not that much of a problem, but given how mean he was, he was just getting at my nerves in a whole new level. He calms down by the second half, but since they never showed him having any kind of remorse about it, I'm still taking it has a problem.
looked at an empty office chair & sighed
Me? I actually really enjoyed this drama!
Was it perfect? No. The tie in of the past and present timelines was unspeakably bad, and to be completely honest, the premise wasn't all that original and the execution could have certainly been better.
But I found myself smiling each and every episode because of the playful and endearingly silly relationship between the main couple. Rowoon really acted his ass off in this one and I really liked his and Bo-Ah's energy together. I laughed a lot during the first few episodes when he was waging an internal war with himself over his feelings for Hong Jo.
I think Destined With You has good re-watch potential, if only to watch the main couple slowly fall in love again. Plus, I'm obssesed with the slow solo-piano version of I'll Always Be With You.
I'm not sure this show lived up to its 'Destiny'. Even
Rowoon couldn't carry this show with his stunning eyebrows, and rather improved acting.
The main female lead had a bad case of TSTL (Too Stupid to Live) and despite me liking her and rooting for her happy-but-tragic story, the show forgot its strongest elements part way through: the magic, the mystery and the curse. The Red Hand scenes in the first half had such potential, were some of the prettiest and most interesting parts in the first half, and were completely forgotten in favor of a cookie-cutter stalker/psycho rom-com in the latter.
As if we haven't had enough of those in dramaland. They didn't know how to pace the information from their past lives and just trauma dumped it into our main leads - and ours - consciousness with little thought to how that played out narratively.
I would have liked more moments like the early part, almost a gothic mystery moment; instead of focusing on irredeemable villains and toxic, abusive and manipulative coworkers who go unacknowledged.
Sigh, I liked it for what it was. Flawed and ultimately forgettable.
Started well and then got absolutely repeat<->rinse crap with cheating , unfaithfulness as theme cover by spell bound pining thats too cringe. I was hoping this would be first drama of Rowoon that i would come to like due to the strong start but i am yet again disappointed !
It was a gripping and interesting show that's had binge watch potential, especially in the beginning. Unfortunately, I'm put off by all the cheating that happened, even if it was by both parties, and they arguably deserved it. The acting was well done, but the characterizations of the main couple felt a bit immature and cringy, especially in the middle of the season. I've watched worse dramas, so I still think it's an intriguing show with the ancient spells and the storyline. Probably won't recommend it to someone, though.
cringe, cringe and cringe.
basically all wokeflix shows of korean language have same thing, they show having a high alcohol tolerance is a big flex and is a good thing. SMH
these wokeflix shows are ruining kdrama as well.
