Before getting to "Cartmanland", I was beginning to fear that South Park may not be quite my cup of tea. While I loved the majority of colourful, twisted and unique characters the show presented, I found the individual episode quality very mixed and the occasional brilliance was mixed with plenty of decent or mediocre episodes. "Cartmanland" through to the end of the season featured not only the majority of my favourite episodes thus far but it truly defined the show's humour for me. Having just finished "Butters' Very Own Episode", I now feel like a South Park fan and eagerly await more from this wonderful series. Season 5 is simply excellent, consistent and hilarious.

Holy crap, we've made it to the mecca! Season 5 is the season that people will pinpoint as the beginning of peak South Park. There are so many iconic episodes in this season alone. Should someone ask me about South Park, I would start them here. The only critique is I wish they would let go of the idea that Terrence & Phillip can be more than a recurring bit because every T&P episode up to this point has been crap. But for every farting Canadian, we get a Jimmy, Timmy, & Butters so I suppose I can relent.

'Top' 3 Episodes:
1. Butter's Very Own Episode
2. Scott Tenorman Must Die
3. Cripple Fight

South Park ups the social commentary in Season 5 as the show deals with post-9/11 America. This season the boys end up in Afghanistan and get caught up in the search for Osama bin Laden, Mr. Garrison attempts to put the airlines out of business by inventing a new mode of transportation called the IT, and Cartman works to legalize stem cell research to save Kenny when he gets a terminal disease. Also, fan favorite character Towelie is introduced (“Don’t forget to bring a towel”), as well as Kyle’s cousin Kyle. The satire is really clever and more irreverent than ever; taking on television censorship, sex education, the War on Terror, and government bailouts. Full of laughs, Season 5 of South Park is incredibly entertaining.
