The first three episodes were very slow i almost gave up on it but no from episode 4 it gets much better much engaging the only thing that kinda bugs me is Elisabeth's accent well great performance nevertheless .. but seriously guys give this show a try you won't regret it
Awesome and very promising show!
S1 only (so far):
Elizabeth Moss is amazing! The scenery is beautiful and almost another character of its own as it impacts on the story more than once. It's a slow burn for sure, but it picks up between episodes 3 and 4 as more pieces fall into place.
great atmosphere, acting and writing. yes, its slow and not exactly action packed, but everything simply fits together here. it shares many of its qualities with the killing, so if you like TK, youll like this.
In series one, Elizabeth Moss plays a detective investigating the assault and disappearance of a 12 year old girl. The case triggers her own last trauma. This can make the show a difficult dark watch. The complex themes take the show beyond the who dunnit genre. Moss is superb. There were some periods I started to get bored with the case, but overall I wanted to watch.
It takes a few episodes to get into the firsts series. The pace can feel slow but also mesmerising at times.
Series Two is a new case but similar themes. Nicole Kidman is the mother of a troubled daughter. The family dynamics are the highlight of this series.
I would recommend with trigger warnings. I might watch again one day, but not sure. There are enough slow periods and enough darkness to maybe put me off a rewatch.
Eerie ending. Makes it worth watching. So I'm coming back on what I said before. Watch it.
I think the show is very slow in building its story. It's not exciting and a bit disappointing at the end of each episode. I do like the mystery and the New Zealand set & setting. But I'm surprised at how high the ratings are.
This show was a gigantic waste of talent. The big problem is that it didn't seem to know what it wanted to be. It was a drama without drama and a mystery without real mystery. It seemed to think that just because you have good actors and dramatic music playing there would be something magically dramatic and it just doesn't work that way. At no point was I invested in any of the characters and at no point did there ever really feel like there was a real mystery. The characters just kind of meandered through mediocre story lines. Season 2 did seem to have a better arc but it was still troubled by all of the above. It's such a shame to see Moss, Kidman and Hunter wasted in this way.
The contrast check out The Sinner to see how drama/mystery should be done.

Has a good start and a good setting. The dull ambience in the beginning somewhat reminds me of 'The Killing'. But then the show is far too slow and has too many weird characters. I don't know why.. but the lack of charakters with a rather usual life story gets more annoying from episode to episode. As if there weren't enough of them already they even invent an extra camp of annoying problematic life story characters...
