In 2012, Louisiana State Police Detectives Rust Cohle and Martin Hart are brought in to revisit a homicide case they worked in 1995. As the inquiry unfolds in present day through separate interrogations, the two former detectives narrate the story of their investigation, reopening unhealed wounds, and drawing into question their supposed solving of a bizarre ritualistic murder in 1995. The timelines braid and converge in 2012 as each man is pulled back into a world they believed they'd left behind. In learning about each other and their killer, it becomes clear that darkness lives on both sides of the law.

People talk about The Wire, Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and many other shows as being the greatest ever, that may be, but season 1 of True Detective is the greatest season of televison ever made.

What a performance from Matthew McConaughey super acting right there !! For the first season i think this is the Best detective show the details everything 10/10

It legitimately does not get better than _True Detective_ Season 1 for me. Literal perfection.

I needed this rewatch to gaze back into the abyss. And it gazes back.

This was the finest writing for television since _The Twilight Zone_ created by Rod Serling. Nic Pizzolatto generated a masterpiece of American television with this season of _True Detective_.

No other gun-wielding duo/squad can ever dethrone **Rust & Marty** from my heart. Absolutely no one.
This show is never gonna be the same for me without them. 💔

The script is outstanding, the cast is spectacular, the atmosphere is captivating and the scenery is breathtaking.
This is perfection and I can only feel sadness as there will never be anything better.
