WOW!! PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND WATCH THIS! I almost gave up on watching the third season because of how disappointing I found season 2 finale, but this was great!!! It was almost as good as s1, in some aspects even better, but maybe s1 remains my favorite because it has that psychodelic feeling to it that just resonates within me, but just so great.
Also the characterization was next level! I thought it was a different actor playing Mahershala, but it was HIM! Even the posture, the way they walked, the extra weight. How to get away with murder can take some notes after that awful make up they did in the show's finale.
And even when I thought the resolution was a little obvious they took things next level, honestly WOW!
I remember first watching this as it premièred on my 18th. I was invested to a point where I, like many others were disappointed in it's ending.
But damn did it sit with me. For 5 whole years. God it is genius and upon rewatching - it's makes so much sense thematically. Whilst the exceptional highs of S1 cannot be beaten, there is something to be said of the subtlety in this season's execution. It's a silent masterpiece of a season, in a show with a stagnant reputation for spectacle.
Loveee it! :star_struck: Absolutely recommend every season of the True Detective!
Don't think I'm alone when I say that I was blown away by the first season, but let down by the second. Very happy to say that the third season, while not quite as good as the first (yet), is back on track and I'm enjoying it immensely.
Solid season with outstanding performances by most actors. It's a bit slow paced, but give this season a chance - you won't regret it.
Beautifully done show. Third season is my favorite by far. They could have gotten to the ending a little quicker. American television almost always runs too long, but it pays off in the end. I rated it an 8. If it had been six episodes instead of eight, it would have been a nine.
A solid season. I particularly loved the acting and the fact that in the end the mystery was just an excuse to talk about family and friendship. What a pity that Jeremy Saulnier didn't direct all the episodes, though.
The finale left me very broken. Everything is closed, but oh those final minutes! Anyway, I'd be glad if it still have another season (and not like the s2).
Season 3 is ok. It's slow and I can only hear about half the dialogue even with the volume at 50.
