Kill la Kill

Honnouji Academy is forcefully ruled by the iron-fisted control of its student council and its president, Satsuki Kiryuin. Transfer student, Ryuko Matoi, arrives on campus carrying a giant sword, that is actually half of a scissor. She is looking for the woman who holds the other half of her sword who killed her father. It is said that Satsuki Kiryuin knows the identity of the killer but when Ryuko confronts her she is beaten by the student council and their powerful "Goku Uniforms" whom she cannot match in strength. However, once Ryuko receives her own "Kamui" by the name of Senketsu, the odds are lifted in her favor.

This anime is amazingly ridiculous, over the top, bizarre and random. It is filled to the brim with magnificent mind blowing action scenes, fanservice for both male and female viewers and tons of self-referential humor. The core characters are all memorable, with Mako being my favorite, reminding me of Dee Dee from Dexter's Lab. While I wouldn't call the story of this anime 100% original the fact that it is such a ridiculous anime actually helps it a ton to camouflage upcoming plot points. Kill la Kill also has no filler episodes helping it maintain a great pace with every episode. It is also one of those rare animes where I will honestly say that the English dub is of superb 10 out of 10 quality.

Even if at first glance you think this anime might not be for you I really think you should give it a shot and not judge it by its cover. If you can get past the nudity and fan service, watching this series is a fantastic roller coaster ride from beginning to end.

Oh and this site lists 25 episodes when it only has 24, I guess someone thought the OVA that came out a few months after the series ended was another episode that aired with the series.

This show was unbelievably ridiculous and campy, with neverending fanservice, but it was still a lot of fun to watch.

I still haven't warmed up to this animation style but I really dig the way this show was handled, it was 90% action, comedy and fanservice and 10% everything else. It took me quiet a while to appreciate the show as well, the initial 12 episodes were a bit average for my tastes but the second half redeemed everything.

Once you start getting used to the style it's all random tomfoolery and shenanigans. The action sequences are one of the most epic sequences I've ever seen from anime and the main characters are one of the most likeable female characters. That said, there are some small nit picks that I have about the show, all in all this was some of best fun I've had recently in an anime.

P.S: Mako is the best female side character I don't care what you say.
