UPDATE end of SEASON 5: After the end of Season 4, I thought the series was over, so I was surprised to see Season 5 come out. With the addition of Sinead Keenan to the cast, it felt like they were starting all over again but by the end of the 6th episode the series was showing itself to transcend death. I’m glad it is back. I continue to give the series a 9 (superb) out of 10. [Police Procedural]. The first 4 seasons are available on BritBox and the 5th has already been broadcast in the UK. I imagine it will come to BritBox once the series jumps the pond to North American broadcasters.
(Review after the end of Season/Series 4). Fantastic, if heartbreaking, finale.. Chris Lang, did you have to be so brutal. Straight 10s for the whole series. Truly a jewel in the crown of UK Crime Dramas.
(Review at the end of Season/Series 3) Nicola Walker is a brilliant actor! So it is not surprising that this is an exceptional series. Don't expect a fast paced, shoot 'em up, action car chase police drama. If that is your favourite fare, you probably won't like this drama. But if you like a well crafted story that reels you in until you are sitting at the edge of your seat, with multi-faceted performances from an excellent cast, portraying believable characters living out the consequences of their own choices, you will love this series. At the end of Series 3, I've elevated my rating from a 9 (superb) to a 10 (brilliant) out of 10 and it now is on my Top 40 TV Series list. The finale of this past season felt like a series finale, but the writer (Creator/Executive Producer - Chris Lang) of the show has since teased out that, should the audience wish, there may be a 4th. Already garnering critical success and BAFTA attention, I think the audience is not ready for DCI Cassie Stuart/Nicola Walker or DS Sunil' Khan/Sanjeev Bhaskar to retire. [Police Procedural]
Excellent show, in every aspect, writing to acting. Compelling stories told in a very touching way, showing that these crimes affected many lives in different ways. Can't recommend it enough, but be warned this is Not a happy show, really ever. And we'll done Sunny, what a talent, and nice guy.
Great cop show.. love how it's not just the person who commits the crime and how their life unravels, but we also see family members and other people connected directly and indirectly from the crime and how the fall-out affects them also. It's never obvious WHO actually did the crime until later in the season, so you're always intrigued as to who the criminal actually is - sometimes right up till the last episode. 9/10
One of the best tv shows ever , I just wish it was on more frequently.
Certainly a unique detective show (cold cases that are brilliantly solved), and one of the absolute best. Is it ITV or Chris Lang's fault for the ending of season four? Someone is guilty and should be brought to justice.
Now Nicola Walker is left to play lesser roles (Annika? 65%?) What a terrible shame.
What a great show - well written and acted. The initial portrayal of all those lives, that starts you wondering just how they could be possibly connected. Then a body is found, and the police start teasing out little threads and tugging on them, to see where they lead. We see the lies and crimes people were linked by years ago, people that have moved on. And as is often the case, no thought of coordinating their stories, their secrets. DCI Cassie is great, as she asks seemingly innocent questions. Sometimes she's fishing, sometimes she already knows the answer. Love her sidekick, DI Sunil. He's both a competent assistant and a good sounding board for her ideas. All her staff are great, like the meetings she has where they all report in bits they have found, often on their own initiative Also liked her own side plot with her own family, and secrets. Lots of minor characters, but none too shallow, all; well related to the plot. I'm looking forward to more as I binge-watch via BritBox.
Just excellent stories and acting.
It's hard to describe this show in a way, because even though each season is its own arc, i don't actually remember a lot of the show, or much of it, which isn't a good sign. I barely remember the suspects and even the villain of each season. I hardly remember any of it, except for the detectives and most of their personal life.
Bit ironic, given the name of the show is "Unforgotten"
But i do actually quite like this show, there's some really good seasons later on, and i like following the personal lives of the detectives, and seeing the personal lives of the suspects. While we get an intimate look into the lives of the main detectives, the supporting investigators are underdeveloped, even though they're good actors with the small parts they play.
The investigation parts are nice but it's the personal lives and societal issues raised that makes you want to keep watching and see explored and see how characters react, and how the investigation makes the suspects react.
And the show does have a nice atmosphere, i do remember that. And of course it's quite British.
It's still a pretty good show overall though, and gets better later on.
There's also a bit of a reflective atmosphere sometimes. There's a bittersweet mood in the air, especially when it comes to the lives of the detectives. It's not a generic show, even though some of the earlier seasons aren't structured well enough. But there's a special kind of quality to this show. I like it, it's good and comfortable and bittersweet, and not overly long.
