I really love the show, and I can't wait for the new season, as someone who has a mental illness it was refreshing to see a new intake on it.

I am not a big fan of Daniel Brühl so this wasn't very high on my watchlist. At the same time I like to watch period shows.
This was a very good mini-series and Brühl did a really good job. The pacing and lenght was just right, it never felt boring. There are two more books by Carr that feature Kreizler but I don't know if there are plans to film them. I certainly would watch. I am thinking about buying the books as well.
While the story itself might not be new or original in terms of the general content, the time period makes this very interesting. In a time where corruption wasn't uncommon and things like fingerprints, profiling were in its infancy (not to mention DNA not even existing) the way to catch a killer was very different. It made the hunt much more engaging.
The costumes and sets look great and althought you can easily identify the CGI, it is incorporated very well and sells the time period.
The cast is great as well, althought I never get the picture of little Dakota in _Taken_ out of my head.
As I said I would welcome a continuation.

I have just finished watching season 1 and I have to say that in my opinion, this show is one of the best in recent years. It goes straight in to my top 5 of all time. The plot, the acting, the sets, the attention to detail, the tension, the character back stories and the soundtrack music - all just... superb! It's creepy, interesting and clever. Just my cup of tea! If you are a fan of Ripper Street and The Frankenstein Chronicles then you will LOVE this... cannot wait to start season 2 - the trailer for which is sooo good! :-) 9/10

I suppose this series is entertaining enough for a second season. While I wouldn't doubt if they decided, either way, making season 2 or canceling it, since better shows have been canceled, I doubt TNT will cancel this one. TNT doesn't have the best list of TV series out there, so this is a nice addition.

This is one of those shows where I see the appeal but it wasn't really for me. The acting was somewhat great however the story slightly confused me.

The first season is not bad. However, in the next one, the character performed by Dakota Fanning was taken more presence leaving in the background the main character and the other one performed by Luke Evans, which threads weren't developed entirely in the first season and looks like there not deepened in the following. That, along with such a confusing script, falls into boredom.

In the other part, The CGI of New York streets in the late XIX century is quite realistic, although the authentic scenery of Budapest's buildings, rooms and places used to replicate them no. Too European for my taste.

**Season 1:**
While the set pieces and scale of the show is to be commended. It has a lacking of true character development and a compelling story. I was bored throughout the show a number of times. Leaving me to believe that this could have maybe been half the time it currently is. There is a lot of needless dilemmas and major plot points that go... nowhere.

The three main actors are very good together. Dakota Fanning shows off her role vibrantly and strong. The other two are a more lazy Sherlock and Watson duo.

The show had a reported five million dollar budget per episode, and it shows. The sets were amazing, having a very gloomy and claustrophobic atmosphere.

I don't think it is worth the watch if you aren't into timepieces or phycological investigating rather than physical. It feels bland and that's not because of the beautifully dark cinematography.

**Season 1** - **5/10**
