The Nevers

In the last years of Victoria's reign, London is beset by the "Touched": people — mostly women — who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities, some charming, some very disturbing. Among them are Amalia True, a mysterious, quick-fisted widow, and Penance Adair, a brilliant young inventor. They are the champions of this new underclass, making a home for the Touched, while fighting the forces of… well, pretty much all the forces — to make room for those whom history as we know it has no place.

I just loved it. Brilliant story telling. Wasn't expecting that I would end loving this as much as I did, especially after I was so disappointed with The Irregulars from Netflix.
Felt like an epoch X-Men type of tale. If you like sci fi mixed with mutants and epoch scenario, then don't miss this.

IDC what anybody says, this was a great show & I love the actress who plays the main character, Amalia, I've seen her in some other movies/series I've enjoyed & she's brilliant in all of them. It's a shame it only has one season, it seems that way w/the industry though. Every time there's an excellent/thoroughly entertaining series it gets cancelled after only 1 or 2 seasons, yet the boring, tired, ridiculous shows are always the ones that stick around season after season for years. It almost feels as if they tease us w/a little taste of what's good then take it away & leave us w/disappointment & crap...

This is Joss Whedon’s brilliant storytelling and HBO’s crudeness colliding. (The HBO playbook seems to think that if they don’t seed a series with nudity, explicit sexuality and vulgarity, you can’t hold an audience. I believe they underestimate their audience). This is a brilliant, multilayered and fantastic premise rooted in the human condition. A flawed protagonist, characters with depth and brokenness, irony, humour, and hard held hope all knit together the narrative. Solid cast (with a surprise fan choice for episode 6) giving full performances. Action galore. I wish it had kept all that and none of the salacious content. I give this series a 9 (superb) out of 10. [SciFi, Fantasy, pseudo-historical drama]

I was hooked already after 10 min of the 1 ep. I wasn't expecting the futuristic plot and I was wary of it but it went amazing. This show has so many things but excluding the 1st ep i wasnt overwhelmed. It should have more episodes! I need s2 now!

Had the look of something I would really love. Just enjoyed it. Episode 6 which is thrown at you at a tangent I have given a rare 10/10, but only for that episode. Most of the others vary from 6-9 in quality. The change in showrunner midstream a la Covid may or may not have affected story, but one would think these things are hammered out before committing to production, yet it somehow feels impacted nevertheless. Even if it crashed and burned from Weedon's tarnished rep, and HBO's wholesale cull, it does show he hasn't lost his grip on executing a good idea. Also it was a great showcase for some damn fine acting, particularly those with characters with issues maintaining personality cohesion, ie. playing True and Maladie.

Yesterday's review on finishing (it took me a while to assemble this show in a watchable form with subtitles which is why I only just finished it.) :-
At the end this was an over-populated and meandering serial crying out to be a pretty reasonable film. Yet there is something rather endearing about the characters and story that all the extra folds of flesh just add wacky twists and turns, some of which can be rather annoying (added:feels like extra padding as per a old black and white serial cliifhanger). In a sense perhaps COVID killed this, yet I am glad it lived, and returned from the dead.

I really enjoyed this. It's a really good show. I just hope they can keep the same quality and humor going forward without he-who-shall-not-be-named.
I do have to say a couple of things about the show tho.
- It does start out a bit slow and you feel like you're constantly playing catch-up. But hang in there, it's worth it.
- I wish they had shown episode 6 earlier - like as ep 2 or 3 as it explains a lot (but not everything).

How I rate:
1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too
9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!

So this is the woke British female version of X-Men it seems. If HBO is really going to go full on woke, they should’ve made the lead females non-white.
