Cancelling such an amazing show, unreal 😢
Without spoiling it for everyone, I just like to say what an awesome ending of Season 3
I really liked this show - plenty of suspense and good story lines. Downside is the amount of subtitles - about 99% of the show is subtitled. I understand that it's a multi-country production, but watching subtitles is really annoying - I don't care if it makes the show more authentic. At least the titles are nice bright yellow instead of blend-in white.
Fantastic show. It expands the film's story. A smart approach to not stay only in the U-boats, works great for the show. The SS plots are intense and bring tension and great espionage arcs. It is a shame Sky Deutschland is cancelling their scripted shows. This one and Babylon Berlin were first-class shows. Although canceled. The last season gave an interesting end to the main arcs.
Where is season 3?Anyone know?
Season three just about to start and i cant wait.First two seasons have been top notch.
_Das Boot_ really could have benefitted from a woman in the writers room. I don't think it's a bad series, most everything on the boat works great for instance, but it could have been a lot better. The entire boat half of the show, all of the actors, the production values: there are great aspects. But not working well is the show's treatment of most of its female characters. If rape-as-drama tropes make you at all squeamish, avoid this show.
Good show so far (only one season out), BUT:
- really annoying to have to watch the French and German police interact in English; That breaks the immersion when all other dialogues among French and German characters are in their respective languages, but otherwise I can only commend the use of native language with subtitles for the characters.
- complete inconsistency between shots where sometimes a still scene will be very visibly shot with a hand held camera making it very giggery at best. This come in contrast with action scene that almost requires hand held camera for the dynamic rendering and tripod mounted camera for calm scenes or panoramic view.
- personal taste, but I couldn't care less about the love stories, and unfortunately some scenes about them just get a bit too long: I had to skip them. The dramatization of the storyline makes some far fetched loop to not drop characters, and that might be the downfall of this show further down the line.
I left the sinking ship after only two episodes. Dialogues and acting are in a submerged state, which—by actresses and acters known as good—is probably caused by command. Things happen as needed and plots are foreseeable as if you would watch with binoculars.
Excellent! Another “Sky exclusive” that has been shown just about everywhere except the UK! I’m sick of getting second best when it comes to series being shown here months after everyone else has seen it! I managed to watch this online and enjoyed it a lot. You have to separate yourself from the original, and go with the premise that this story is set 9 months after the original Das Boot. Do that, and you won’t be drawling comparison with the original, which is impossible to better, but this series has a damn good try. I see season 2 has been agreed. I look forward to seeing it, hopefully at the same time as everyone else on the planet!
