I think I have a lot to say about this one - so please bear with me.
First, I have to say this is an incredible depiction of the Life of Christ. The best by far. This series is incredibly well written, well produced, with great cinematography, fresh music as well as some great acting. It is vastly different from other shows or movies that portray the life of Christ. This one does it without being preachy, or quite so hard nosed about hitting the viewer over the head with the Gospel.
Are all the details accurate? No. Of course not. How could they be. There are obviously no written documents of life and individual interactions between all the people portrayed. And YouTube and Ticktock weren't around in those days yet either. So we have very little insight into the detail lives.
What we do have are the works of many Biblical scholars over the years who have pieced together what general life would have been like back then and that knowledge is put to use in this series. And obviously the conversations are fictional but at least try to portray what we know about the people and their lives from the Bible.
One of the most amazing things to witness in this show is how every person feels very real with real emotions, and humor.
I highly recommend that everyone watch this series if they can (with an open mind of course).
How I rate:
1-3 ❤ = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6 ❤ = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8 ❤ = I expect you will like this too
9-10 ❤ = movies and TV shows I really love!
It s a TV show not a documentary. A good period drama with Jesus it s a miracle
The best show about Jesus I've ever seen (possibly a tie with the Passion - but they are very different and I loved each in different ways). Those who say it's inaccurate - guess what? They never claimed to be accurate. They claim that it's plausible - made up of mostly fictionalized events that surround the well known Bible stories and flesh out the backgrounds of disciples and other characters which are NOT told in the scriptures - or any where else. They are fictionalized into a drama that - hopefully - will draw people into the scriptures to read the truth for themselves. And with that purpose, they have succeeded in a big way! I've been a Christian for over 40 years, and this show has sent me to my Bible many times to read the biblical account of the story they just told.
I love the chosen, I was not expecting this show to be this good. Not gonna lie it may me tear up a couple of times, so good actors did a great job, and it was very believable. I know a little bit of bible and even the things that I already knew were going to happen made me emotional. Jesus is King 👑
It’s so great to see a biblical show thats also done well enough where it’s at the same quality of high production secular TV shows. I hope this goes for many seasons.
I wanted this to be good. It had the budget to be good. The cinematic feel of it was good. Some of the casting and acting was good. It had public support. But, it desperately needed a biblical historian (like Craig Evans) to guide the historical accuracy. It stumbles over the most basic details (a centurion is leader of 80 men, he most definitely wouldn't be assigned to guard a tax collector; Hebrew is read and written from right to left, yet Nicodemus seems unaware of this; also, sacred texts were on scrolls, not bound in books, and very rare; the disciples were not educated men, which is why the ruling class marvelled at their wisdom; the writing shows a very cursory reading of the New Testament and no knowledge at all of scholarly work done on arranging the gospel material chronologically or on Harmonies, and I could go on and on). Eventually all these inconsistencies and anachronisms were just too annoying to allow me to continue watching the series. I could only make it to episode 4, and have now abandoned it. Please, Dallas Jenkins, get a scholar to guide you, you have the unique opportunity to do a great thing, and the resources and public trust to do it. As it stands, I give this series a 4 (poor) out of 10. [Quasi-Biblical Drama]
The fundamental part about this film is the insight on actual (not factual) ground events in real time.
You get to experience the emotional side of things apart from Bible stories & preachers narrative.
You get to be part of individuals facing, choices the emotions & the life burdens that today we somehow assume if we where there perhaps we would have done a better job.
But this film makes you realise
You could have been worse as this is what we do today....
Compromise here, be blind there, be confident there etc.
Very good! It faithfully portrays what Jesus' life was like at that time. I really like how it reflects the joy of the first Christians. Highly recommended! 10/10 :thumbsup_tone1:😻
The show has been postponed to Sunday because of the Trump and Biden debate today
