Not your typical show yet a hillarious, delirious, extremely hysterical, at times insanely violent animation. Another monstrous creation from the mind of Justin Rolland that is just as chaotic, dark and meta as Rick and Morty! Filled with glorious references, all-stars guest voices and dramatic musical cues that only make the show better, Solar Opposites is just a triumph for streaming animation.

It certainly lacks Harmon's story telling, but I liked it, it's filled with Roiland's chaotic energy.

Am I the only one who wants a show just based on the wall. It’s hands down the best part of this series

It’s decent so far. Really think it would be better if they used a different animation studio than the one rick and morty uses. It would pull away from the r&m similarities more.

The main story can basically be ignored. The characters are fine but stay completely static. The plot lines feel like they’re reskinned Family Guy scripts with a sprinkling of edginess.

But the Wall is fantastic. I’ll watch 15 minutes of background TV just for the Wall scenes. Great writing, animation, and voice acting.

Solar Opposites is an animated sci-fi comedy that thrives on absurdity, manic energy, and unexpectedly sharp worldbuilding. Created by Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan, it follows a dysfunctional team of aliens stuck on Earth who are trying (and often failing) to blend in with human society. The premise leans into chaos, and the show wastes no time throwing logic out the window in favor of rapid-fire gags, pop culture jabs, and over-the-top violence.

Korvo, the grumpy and tech-obsessed leader, and Terry, his fun-loving partner, make up the core of the adult dynamic, while Yumyulack and Jesse cover the “alien-kid-in-high-school” tropes in delightfully bizarre ways. The show is often juvenile and crude, but it’s self-aware enough to make it work.

What really sets Solar Opposites apart is “The Wall”—a subplot about shrunken humans living in a dystopian society inside a terrarium in the aliens’ house. The Wall is wildly ambitious for a comedy, delivering a surprisingly grounded, serialized narrative filled with betrayal, power struggles, and emotional twists. In many ways, it outshines the main plot and is easily one of the most compelling side stories in animated television.

After the departure of co-creator Justin Roiland in 2023, the tone of the show shifted slightly, with Dan Stevens stepping in as the new voice of Korvo. His performance fits well, but the series overall started to lose some of its original punch and edge. The later seasons still offer fun, but don’t always hit the same highs as earlier episodes.

Still, Solar Opposites manages to deliver a solid mix of absurd comedy and surprisingly heartfelt moments. It never reaches the philosophical or narrative depth of something like Rick and Morty, but it doesn’t try to. It’s weird, messy, and often hilarious in its own right. 7/10.
